Chasing Calm
Art Direction / Performer
My undergraduate thesis centered around trauma and what it is like for those who walk around carrying it.
The book I designed has three parts, the first is my own personal account of living with trauma, the second is made from accounts shared with me anonymously, and the third is about personal acceptance and call to acceptance by others, in their own healthy way.
A major portion of this project was held up by the months of research done into the current and past knowledge of trauma, how it is believe to be created, experienced, and worked through. I did reading into both medical and anecdotal writings to gain a more well rounded understanding of trauma, outside of my personal experience. The anonymous accounts were gathered through an online platform which people chose to engage with. I have received positive and informational feedback on the book and performance from audiences. This book is a capsule of it's time and the feedback will be used if the subject is further explored in the future.
Theoretically: Artist bound A3 hardback book, printed on Somerset Book Wove paper (175 Gsm).
The book in itself is a design piece that can stand alone, but the full work includes a performance of the book, by myself, which was done online and can be viewed below.
